Eastern Suburbs
Travertine cleaning in the Eastern Suburbs
The Eastern Suburbs have more travertine per street than almost anywhere else we work: harbourside terraces, cliff-top pool decks and wide front steps. Salt spray and heavy use mean regular cleaning, always with neutral products that won't etch the face.
Travertine is the stone of the modern prestige home: honed travertine around the pool, tumbled pavers down the side, cladding on a feature wall. It looks calm and expensive when it's clean and tired when it's not, and it marks easily.
Most damage to travertine comes from the wrong cleaner. Anything acidic, including many general-purpose outdoor cleaners and some mould removers, etches the surface and leaves dull patches. We use pH-neutral products, low pressure and a test patch every time. Limestone has its own page, because it's softer again.
Local detail
Travertine cleaning across the Eastern Suburbs
What we see in suburbs in the Eastern Suburbs:
- Darling Point: Travertine terraces and pool areas.
- Tamarama: Stone terraces on modern homes.
- Bronte: Many homes have pools and big glass.
- Paddington: Terraces line streets from Oxford Street down to Rushcutters Bay.
- Dover Heights: Most homes here are contemporary, with big expanses of glass, aluminium joinery, rendered walls, roof terraces and travertine or porcelain around pools.
- Point Piper: Homes here are waterfront estates with terraces stepping down to the harbour, large pools, private jetties and finishes in limestone, marble and glass.
How often
For travertine cleaning, plan on near the water, every 12 months; on sheltered sites, every 18 months.
What affects the quote
- Waterfront: wash water near the shoreline may need to be contained and collected.
- Heritage materials: test patches and lower pressure take longer than a modern build.
- Steep access: carrying gear down stairs and running long hoses adds time.

Do you offer travertine cleaning everywhere in the Eastern Suburbs?
Yes. We cover all 12 suburbs listed above from our base in Elanora Heights.
Can I use vinegar on travertine?
No. Vinegar is an acid and will etch travertine. Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner.
Why is my travertine going dull?
Usually acid etching from cleaners or a worn topical sealer. We can tell you which on site.
Will pressure cleaning blow out the holes?
Not at the pressure we use. High pressure can, which is why we keep it low.
Should travertine be sealed?
Around pools and outdoor kitchens, yes, with a breathable penetrating sealer.
Can you remove leaf stains from travertine?
Tannin stains usually lift with a targeted treatment. Deep or old stains may fade rather than disappear.
