Stone sealing in Sydney

A good sealer keeps stone cleaner for years. We seal sandstone and natural stone after a deep clean, with a breathable sealer chosen for the stone and how you use it.

Stone sealing

What sealing with us looks like

Unsealed stone and concrete act like a sponge. Red wine at a party, oil from a car, leaf tannin after rain and mould in the shade all soak straight in. A sealer slows that down. Spills sit on the surface long enough to wipe up and the next clean is quicker and gentler.

Sealing only works on a clean, dry surface, so every sealing job starts with a full clean. Then we let the surface dry properly before the sealer goes on. Rushing that step is why so many DIY sealers fail.

Washing sandstone pool coping before it is sealed

Why it matters

What you get

Stains wipe up

Food, wine and oil sit on the surface instead of soaking in.

Slower mould growth

Less water in the stone means less for mould and algae to live on.

Natural look kept

Penetrating sealers protect without a shiny film. Enhancing sealers deepen colour if you want that.

Anti-slip available

Pool surrounds and stairs can be sealed with an anti-slip additive.

Our method

How we do it

Washing a hedge-lined front entry
Google review, Lou
Nathan is punctual, knowledgeable, polite and left our place neat and tidy.

Step 01 of 04

Deep clean

The surface is cleaned and any stains treated, as for a full driveway or sandstone clean.

Washing a tall rendered wall from a narrow side passage
Google review, Irish
He was professional, responsive, and delivered exactly as promised.

Step 02 of 04

Dry out

We wait until the stone is dry enough. Porous stone can take a day or more after cleaning.

Garden path and house exterior after a wash
Google review, Luke
Great work, fair pricing, and excellent communication.

Step 03 of 04

Apply the sealer

The chosen sealer goes on evenly by sprayer, roller or brush, then excess is removed.

Washing a painted boundary wall
Google review, Karen
Excellent service! Nathan is punctual and nothing is a problem.

Step 04 of 04

Cure

Light foot traffic is usually fine within hours. Cars and furniture wait for the curing time on the product.

Penetrating or topical sealer?

Penetrating sealers soak into the stone and line the pores. You can't see them, they don't peel, and they let the stone breathe. They're our default for sandstone, travertine and most pavers.

Topical sealers sit on the surface as a film. They can give a wet look or a sheen and suit some concrete and stencilled surfaces, but they wear in traffic areas and need re-coating. We'll recommend one based on your surface, the look you want and how hard the area is used.

Protective sealing for every surface

Sandstone sealing and natural stone sealing are on this page. Concrete, driveways, pavers, brick, travertine and limestone each have their own sealing page, because the cleaning before the seal and the right product are different for each one. Whatever the surface, the protective seal only goes on once it's clean and dry.

How long does a seal last?

A quality penetrating sealer on sandstone or pavers usually lasts several years outdoors, depending on sun, traffic and how the area is cleaned. Topical sealers on driveways wear faster under tyres. A simple water test tells you when it's time: if water darkens the stone straight away, the sealer has worn.

Will sealing make my paving slippery?

Penetrating sealers don't change the grip. Topical sealers can, so on pool surrounds and stairs we add an anti-slip additive.

Can you seal straight after cleaning?

Only once the surface is dry. On porous stone we often clean one day and seal the next.

Will a sealer change the colour?

A natural-look penetrating sealer leaves the colour almost unchanged. A colour-enhancing sealer deepens it. We'll show you on a test area.

How long before I can walk on it?

Usually a few hours for foot traffic. Driveways need longer before cars go on them, depending on the product.

Can old sealer be removed?

Yes. Peeling or yellowed topical sealers can be stripped before a new seal goes on. It adds time and we'll quote it separately.

Do you seal sandstone walls as well as paving?

Yes. Walls are sealed to stop water and dirt soaking in, which slows mould on the shaded side.
