Many North Shore verandahs and entries still have original encaustic or quarry tiles. They need a gentler hand than modern porcelain, so we test first, avoid harsh acids and work the grout lines without loosening old tiles.
Outdoor tiles hold up well. The grout between them doesn't. It's porous, it sits lower than the tile, and it collects dirt, mould and black spots that don't come out with a mop or a hose.
We clean tiles and grout together with a rotary surface cleaner and a grout-safe pressure, then detail the joints by hand where needed. Loose or crumbling grout is pointed out before we start, because no cleaner can put it back.

Not at the right pressure. Grout that's already loose may come away, and we'll show it to you first.
Can you get black spots out of grout?
Most mould spots lift with a pre-treatment. Deep staining can fade rather than vanish.

Should grout be sealed after cleaning?
