Northern Beaches
Stone sealing on the Northern Beaches
On the Northern Beaches, sealing is mostly about salt and pool water. Sandstone and travertine terraces near the ocean and Pittwater soak up salt that blooms white as it dries, and pool surrounds take chlorine every day. A breathable penetrating sealer slows both down without making the stone slippery.
Unsealed stone and concrete act like a sponge. Red wine at a party, oil from a car, leaf tannin after rain and mould in the shade all soak straight in. A sealer slows that down. Spills sit on the surface long enough to wipe up and the next clean is quicker and gentler.
Sealing only works on a clean, dry surface, so every sealing job starts with a full clean. Then we let the surface dry properly before the sealer goes on. Rushing that step is why so many DIY sealers fail.
Local detail
Sealing across the Northern Beaches
What we see in suburbs on the Northern Beaches:
- Palm Beach: Sealing so stone stays clean between visits when the house is empty.
- Seaforth: Grout and paver sealing so stains and moss don't come straight back.
- Balgowlah Heights: Anti-slip sealing on shaded stairs and pool coping that stay damp.
- Manly: Sealing exposed stone so salt and sand don't soak straight back in.
- Clontarf: On waterfront lots there is often no drain between the paving and the harbour.
- Duffys Forest: Before summer we clear gutters and roofs on homes and outbuildings, and clean the house and paving once the risk work is done.
How often
For sealing, plan on near the water, every 3 to 4 years; under trees, every 3 to 5 years.
What affects the quote
- Steep access: carrying gear down stairs and running long hoses adds time.
- Pools: run-off has to be kept out of the water, and coping is often a different stone from the terrace.
- Waterfront: wash water near the shoreline may need to be contained and collected.

Our method
How we handle sealing

Nathan is punctual, knowledgeable, polite and left our place neat and tidy.
Step 01 of 04
Deep clean
The surface is cleaned and any stains treated, as for a full driveway or sandstone clean.

He was professional, responsive, and delivered exactly as promised.
Step 02 of 04
Dry out
We wait until the stone is dry enough. Porous stone can take a day or more after cleaning.

Great work, fair pricing, and excellent communication.
Step 03 of 04
Apply the sealer
The chosen sealer goes on evenly by sprayer, roller or brush, then excess is removed.

Excellent service! Nathan is punctual and nothing is a problem.
Step 04 of 04
Cure
Light foot traffic is usually fine within hours. Cars and furniture wait for the curing time on the product.

Talk to Nathan directly. He quotes and attends every job himself.
Do you offer sealing everywhere on the Northern Beaches?
Yes. We cover all 42 suburbs listed above from our base in Elanora Heights.
Will sealing make my paving slippery?
Penetrating sealers don't change the grip. Topical sealers can, so on pool surrounds and stairs we add an anti-slip additive.
Can you seal straight after cleaning?
Only once the surface is dry. On porous stone we often clean one day and seal the next.
Will a sealer change the colour?
A natural-look penetrating sealer leaves the colour almost unchanged. A colour-enhancing sealer deepens it. We'll show you on a test area.
How long before I can walk on it?
Usually a few hours for foot traffic. Driveways need longer before cars go on them, depending on the product.
Can old sealer be removed?
Yes. Peeling or yellowed topical sealers can be stripped before a new seal goes on. It adds time and we'll quote it separately.
